Testimonials and Case Studies

Gero Leson,
VP of Special Operations, Dr. Bronner’s Company and Author of Honor Thy Label:

“Gerard van Gils has guided my professional path at several critical junctures. First, in the early 90s, as my boss at an environmental consulting firm in Santa Monica.

In our recent collaboration he has advised our team at Serendipol, the world’s first producer of organic and fair trade coconut oil in Sri Lanka. The task was to upgrade our existing biological wastewater treatment system and recycle the majority of it into process and washing water, thus drastically reducing pumping from our besieged groundwater aquifer.

Gerry's decades of hand-on experience in designing and building water systems, clarity on technology and collaboration with technology suppliers and his modest and collaborative style impressed our young production team at Serendipol and gave them the confidence to complete and operate the project. I hope Gerry will support us on other water campaigns in our smallholder farming and processing projects worldwide.”

Wastewater Treatment System for Shambhala Mountain Center (SMC)

Shambhala Mountain Center (SMC) is a meditation studies and retreat center located remotely in the Rocky Mountains. The center is a totally self-sufficient village including classrooms, dining rooms, dormitories and kitchens, as well as the world-renowned landmark, The Stupa of Dharmakaya.

Totally off the grid, the center needed its own water and wastewater treatment system. With help from Dr. Van Gils, a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) wastewater system was designed and installed to treat the center’s wastewater. The unique remote setting required that the system produce stream quality discharge water (effluent) to protect the environment and all downstream users of the water.
